The xx returned to the stage for the first time in eight years this past weekend, performing three headline shows at Mexico City’s Pepsi Centre WTC.
Marking their first full performances together since 2018, the trio revisited music spanning their three studio albums, ‘xx’, ‘Coexist’, and ‘I See You’. Each night opened with ‘Crystalised’, alongside selections including ‘Intro’, ‘VCR’, ‘Islands’, and ‘On Hold’.
The band also presented a medley of solo material, featuring Oliver Sim’s ‘GMT’, Romy’s ‘Enjoy Your Life’, and Jamie xx’s ‘Wanna’ and ‘Waited All Night’. The latter’s ‘I’ll Take Care Of You’, created with Gil Scott-Heron, and ‘Loud Places’, his collaboration with Romy, were also included across the run.
On the final night, the group introduced a new track titled ‘Silhouettes’ midway through the set. It marked the only new material performed, with a new album expected later this year. The same show also saw the live debut of ‘Seasons Run’ from ‘I See You’.
The Mexico City dates signal the band’s return to live activity ahead of their upcoming performances at Coachella over the next two weekends.
