The new vinyl-only imprint launches with a horror-inspired jungle cut and remix from drum & bass legend Digital.
Ulterior Motives has introduced its new Black Label series with ‘Danny ’25’ by DJ Persuasion, a limited vinyl-only release that merges jungle intensity with cinematic unease.
Inspired by the mythology of a cult horror classic, ‘Danny ’25’ channels eerie atmospherics through propulsive drums and heavy bass, nodding to the long tradition of horror-sampling hardcore. On the flip, Digital—a key figure in the evolution of drum & bass and founder of Function Records—delivers a trademark rework built on deep subs and taut rhythms.
The release marks a new chapter for DJ Persuasion, the jungle alias of Semtek, founder of Don’t Be Afraid. Known for his acclaimed 88–98 era jungle mixes for The Trilogy Tapes, Tape-Echo, and Blackest Ever Black, Persuasion has steadily carved a distinct identity through projects that bridge underground culture and contemporary experimentation.
‘Danny ’25’ follows Persuasion’s previous releases on Ulterior Motives, including his sought-after Bone Thugz ’n’ Harmony flip and the ‘Jameela’ EP. With this new imprint, Ulterior Motives’ Black Label positions itself as a dedicated outlet for uncompromising jungle and drum & bass crafted for purists and selectors alike.
