Since its inception, VASSNOVA has become a platform for global talent, featuring monthly releases that showcase the best of techno and house. Casanova’s own tracks have consistently climbed the Beatport charts, with ‘Medellin’ on Factory 93 and ‘Uncontrolled’ on Trick label making waves. Her collaboration with Dosem on the remix of ‘Out of Space’ even broke into the top 10 on Beatport’s techno charts.

Casanova’s influence extends far beyond the studio. She has graced the stages of major international festivals and clubs, including Decibel Open Air in Italy, Monegros Festival in Spain, and iconic venues like Hi and DC-10 in Ibiza, Printworks in London, and The Warehouse Project in the UK. Her global reach spans continents, with performances in Australia, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

In this exclusive interview, Viviana Casanova opens up about her latest release, the ‘Automatic’ EP on Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave label. She delves into her creative process, discusses the impact of AI on music production, and shares exciting insights into her upcoming projects, including a blend of music and skateboarding set to launch in 2024.

EG: Hi, Viviana! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been? Where are you right now?

Viviana Casanova: Hi, Electronic Groove! A pleasure to be here. Right now, I’m at the airport on my way to Cordoba, where I have a show tonight. Thanks for the opportunity to chat!

EG: So, first of all, congratulations on the release of your new ‘Automatic’ EP! You must be psyched to have this one out on Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave. What are some of your initial feelings now that the EP is out and about?

Viviana Casanova: Thank you! I’m truly excited about the release of ‘Automatic’ on the We Are The Brave label. I’ve been counting the days for people to hear these four tracks, which represent a lot of my current sound and were created with a lot of love. It’s a very personal EP that captures an energy I’m eager to share with everyone.

EG: Now, what can your fans expect to find on ‘Automatic’ as a whole? Is there a concept or emotional trigger driving this EP?

Viviana Casanova: Absolutely. ‘Automatic’ was born from my desire to pay homage to the sounds that shaped my teenage years: punk, rap metal, and breaks. I wanted to channel that energy and attitude into an EP that resonates in the clubs where I play, in a more club-friendly format, without losing the authenticity of the roots that inspired it. It’s an EP that carries that essence but is adapted to the present.

EG: And what was the creative process for these tracks like? Do you have some “go-to” resources/techniques by now? Do you feel the need to “close” ideas as fast as possible, or do you allow it to take its time?

Viviana Casanova:  My creative process is fueled by intense moments, whether it’s an incredible show or hearing a track that deeply inspires me. Those experiences drive me to enter the studio and bring that energy into something of my own. It’s a way to process what I’ve experienced and turn it into music.

EG: What would you like for listeners to take away from this particular EP?

Viviana Casanova: I hope that, when people listen to this EP, they feel the authenticity and passion with which it was created. I want the tracks to transport them and connect them to the energy I lived through while creating them.

EG: Since we’re on the release front…is there anything else you can anticipate for the coming months?

Viviana Casanova: A month ago, we recorded an episode for Ministry of Sound’s documentary ‘Sounds of the Scene’, where I share a bit of my sound evolution, from my beginnings in Chile to my career in Spain. It’s a project that fills me with excitement, and I hope it will be released before the end of the year.

Additionally, I want to reactivate my YouTube channel with new content and streams, a format I enjoyed immensely during the pandemic. I’m working on a project that combines music and skateboarding, something I’ve always been passionate about, and we hope to bring it to life by the end of 2024.

EG: Now, onto a hot topic…How do you feel about the rise of AI implementation in music? What’s your relationship with that like? Has any form of AI been used on any of your recent productions?

Viviana Casanova: The evolution of AI in music is impressive. I think that if we use it as a complementary tool to our own knowledge, it can be a great ally to optimize processes and improve sound quality. Personally, I’ve experimented with AI programs for mastering and have been pleasantly surprised; if the mix is good, the results can be excellent.

EG: And how do you feel about the current state of the scene? Have we strayed too far from our origins, or is everything just a part of the normal course of evolution?

Viviana Casanova: I believe it’s part of natural evolution. New technologies and the relentless pace of change make people constantly seek something new, which can be a challenge. As an artist, it’s important to adapt and keep moving, although I recognize that it can be exhausting. Personally, I try to see it as an opportunity to improve and evolve.

EG: Finally, what can we expect from Viviana Casanova in the next few months? Where can your fans catch you next?

Viviana Casanova: The next few months will be intense, filled with music, live sets, and exciting projects. On November 8th and 9th, I’m debuting in Orlando and Las Vegas, and on December 13th, I’ll perform at Rave On Snow in Austria. I’ll also be at several European clubs that already feel like home, and I can’t wait to return. Additionally, in 2025, I’ll have my first All Night Long set at a club that’s very special to me and has become an annual must.

EG: Thank you so much for your time, Viviana! We wish you all the best for the future. Take care!

Viviana Casanova: Thank you so much for this special interview and for supporting my new EP. It’s been a pleasure sharing a bit more about this project with Electronic Groove.
