The pioneering electronic artist and composer was 51.
Mira Calix (born Chantal Passamonte), the award-winning interdisciplinary artist and long-standing Warp Records member has passed away. Her death was confirmed today in a social media statement by Warp. No cause of death has been announced so far.
‘Mira was not only a hugely talented artist and composer, she was also a beautiful, caring human who touched the lives of everyone who had the honour of working with her.’ said the record label in their statement.
Pasamonte was born in Durban, South Africa, in 1970, and moved to the UK in the ‘90s, where she began working as a press officer for Warp Records. In 1996, Mira became one of the first women to be signed to the label, going on to release seven albums, as well as a string of EPs, singles, and soundtracks. Her commissioned works included projects with The Royal Shakespeare Company, Opera North, the Manchester International Festival, and many more.

absolutely devastated… Mira Calix was an incredible story teller. Always found time to reply to my emails 15 years ago as an excited kid trying to reach out to a larger community. She didn’t have to, its just how kind and warm she was. Will listen to her music, again, today.
