AlphaTheta just released ‘The Evolution of Ibiza,’ a feature-length documentary exploring the transformation of the island’s iconic club scene.
The film traces Ibiza’s journey from a ’60s hippie haven to the world’s premier party destination. As costs rise for flights, accommodations, club entries, drinks, and island workers’ living expenses, the documentary questions whether Ibiza can maintain its authentic roots and remain accessible to all, or if it’s destined to become an exclusive playground for the wealthy.
Produced and directed by Dan Tait and Laurence Koe, ‘The Evolution of Ibiza’ examines the impact of commercialization on the island. It features insights from club promoters, locals, government officials, and renowned DJs such as Carl Cox and Norman Cook, as well as artists like Franky Wah and Chloe Caillet.
Pioneer DJ/AlphaTheta began creating feature-length documentaries in 2016 to highlight issues in the electronic music scene from a neutral perspective. Previous topics have included artists’ physical and mental health, social media effects, and pandemic impacts. The goal is to foster debate and promote unity under the slogan ‘One Through Music.’
