Tel Aviv/based artist, DJ & producer AfterU is back on the sound systems with the release of his latest single, ‘Mabrook’. The new drop is already available to stream and purchase across all major digital platforms via Blond:ish’s own Abracadabra label.
“I started this track in 2015 with just a cool beat, bass line, and some harmony, adding some little changes afterward to make it simpler. I wanted to make something uplifting and groovy with some house elements and a happy feeling while keeping the authentic vibe and sound and the oriental influences. So, I came up with the hook with the percussion on the drop that reminds me of the sound of “Doyra”. This is a traditional hand drum from Uzbekistan, and as I was born there, I have been influenced a lot by its traditional music. Taking these influences to this world, I tried to give the drop the vibe and rhythms of this music culture,” explains AfterU.
“The name ‘Mabrook’ was chosen because the track took such a long time to complete, that the first word that came out of my mouth when it was finally finished was “Mabrook”. The meaning of this Arabic word is “blessed” but it’s also an expression for congratulation, and this is exactly how I felt with the final mixdown,” he adds.
