Roland is marking two decades of the SP-404 with an international tour celebrating the legendary sampler’s cultural impact.
The 404 Day series officially kicked off on April 3rd, 2025, with the North American leg heading to cities including Atlanta, Toronto, Philadelphia, Sacramento, Portland, Detroit, Boston, and Los Angeles. Further events are set for Tokyo, Osaka, Rome, São Paulo, Mumbai, Brisbane, and Berlin.
Each stop on the tour features a mix of beat battles, live sets, and panel discussions hosted by artists whose work has helped define the SP-404’s legacy. In-store events at Roland showrooms in cities like London and Tokyo will offer workshops, equipment demos, and limited-edition gear giveaways—including merch, hardware, and Roland Cloud memberships.
Introduced in 2005 and designed by Kenji Yamada, the SP-404 was shaped by early ’90s rave aesthetics and quickly became a cornerstone for beatmakers across genres like lo-fi, hip-hop and reggaetón. Its newest iteration, the SP-404MKII, includes integrated Serato support, allowing plug-and-play stem control and expanded DJ functionality.
