London mayor Sadiq Khan has unveiled a redesigned tube map paying tribute to the city’s grassroots music scene. The collaborative effort includes contributions from Transport for London, Outernet, Metro, Universal Music, the Music Venue Trust (MVT), and the Featured Artist Coalition.
The new map reimagines the iconic London Underground layout, with each line representing a different theme from the city’s musical heritage. The Piccadilly line, for instance, features contemporary London artists, while the Bakerloo line highlights songs that reference the capital.
Featured destinations include well-known clubs and cultural spots such as fabric, FOLD, Dalston Superstore, The Cause, Venue MOT, and Phonica Records.
The release comes three months after the creation of London’s first-ever Nightlife Taskforce, spearheaded by mayor Khan. The initiative, aimed at strengthening the city’s nighttime economy, recently launched a survey in collaboration with VibeLab to gather public insight on the current state of nightlife. Findings from the research will be shared in a report due this October.
In a statement, mayor Khan emphasized the importance of London’s music ecosystem: “Our venues are an essential part of our life at night and provide a huge boost to our economy. However, they have faced huge challenges in recent years…This special edition tube map is a great way to highlight what a huge impact the scene has on our capital, as we continue to do all we can to support venues and build a more prosperous London for everyone.”
