Café del Mar has announced the release of its first-ever artist-led album, ‘Journey Within’, crafted by electronic duo Pig&Dan. The record signals a new phase for the label as it blends Pig&Dan’s techno-leaning palette with Café del Mar’s signature chillout aesthetic.
Globally renowned for its Balearic compilations and sunset sound, Café del Mar celebrates 45 years by broadening its horizons. This milestone collaboration marks the beginning of the label’s new chapter featuring artist-led projects.
Café del Mar resident DJ and music curator Ken Fan recalled his early reaction to the album: “Pig&Dan sent me this unsigned album last year, and after testing the tracks in my daily sets, the crowd’s reaction said it all. Every time I included them in a mix, people were asking what they were, and Shazaming with no results. It’s a brilliant start to our first artist release at Café del Mar, with more to come. Watch this space.”
For Pig&Dan, widely known for high-octane techno performances at events like Tomorrowland and Awakenings, ‘Journey Within’ reveals a more introspective facet. Embracing dub textures, psychedelic tones, and emotive downtempo arrangements, the album reflects a deeper layer of their artistry.
“We wanted to explore the deeper, more emotive side of our musical identity, stepping away from the club energy to create something that reaches a bit deeper,” the duo explained. “This album is a journey into our minds, reflecting the influences and organic sounds that have always been part of our creative DNA.”
The opening track, ‘Can’t Do It On My Own’, sets the tone with emotive strings, atmospheric synths, and expressive vocals. The production bridges Pig&Dan’s underground roots with Café del Mar’s enduring emotional storytelling, offering a standout moment on a reflective and exploratory record.
Featuring artwork by David Robles, ‘Journey Within’ carves out a forward-looking narrative while paying tribute to Café del Mar’s Balearic legacy.
