Now he has launched his own imprint, Life In Colour. The concept is simple: sign any piece of music that connects with him, steering clear of genre boxes and fleeting trends. The first releases lean toward punchy club tracks that match his sets, while an album slated for next year will let him blur boundaries, pulling inspiration from psychedelic rock, Balearic, dream‑pop, trip‑hop and shoegaze. Many of the cuts below served as early spark points for the label.

Life In Colour opens with ‘In My Head’ by Made By Pete and Secret Echoes (June 6th), named Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune on BBC Radio 1. Lucas Blumen’s ‘Dealer Heat’ EP follows on June 27th, with Made By Pete’s own ‘The Revenge’ set for July 25th.

To mark the birth of the label—and hint at the album he is sculpting for next year—Made By Pete digs into the music that lit the fuse.

1. Moon Duo – Lost Heads

“The psychedelic synths and vocals are hypnotic, full of light and shade. Melancholy runs right through it.”

2. Sebastien Tellier – La Ritournelle

“An all-time classic. It has everything I want from a piece of music.”

3. Jimi Jules, Joy Tyson, Nathan Curran – Clinomania

“My favourite cut from Jimi’s ‘+’ album. Joy Tyson’s vocal is so cool, and the live bass seals it.”

4. Warpaint – Disco Very

Richard Norris introduced me to this in a session. The group vocal tone grabbed me instantly and the bass line pumps.”

5. Red Axes – ECHO

“I love how they blend guitar rock with electronics. This one really stands out.”

6. The HolyDrug Couple – Concorde

“A hypnotic riff that keeps pushing forward, spaced-out yet uplifting.”

7. SAULT – Wildfires

“I first heard it before a Bali gig and stayed up all night making an edit. It closes my BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix.

8. Moderat – Eating Hooks

“The intro is so expressive, full of tension. Their live show at Alexandra Palace was one of the best I have seen.”

9. Massive Attack, Tracey Thorn – Protection

“I had to pick one Massive Attack record. Tracey Thorn’s voice with them is perfect.”

10. Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit

“An all-time psychedelic classic—magical and weird as hell. Perfection.”
