New York’s The Lot Radio is reopening its onsite kiosk this Friday, July 11th, 2025, after an eight-month closure. The return follows a shutdown initiated by city officials in October 2023 due to health violations and unresolved renovation permits.

The Lot Radio, known for its independent, online-only broadcasts, had served coffee, beer, wine, and snacks on location until city authorities shuttered the kiosk. At the time, a yellow “CLOSED” notice was posted on the door, and 74 health violations were reportedly logged on October 14th by the Department of Health.

Founder François Vaxelaire clarified that the closure stemmed not from health concerns but from renovation permit issues, resulting in an undetermined status with NYC’s Department of Buildings.

The kiosk is now cleared to reopen and will operate daily from 12 PM to 12 AM starting Friday. In a July 8th Instagram post, The Lot Radio described the past eight months as “an incredibly difficult time,” with the kiosk being vital to funding the station. “The project has never been so fragile and on the verge of disappearing,” they wrote.

The team thanked the New York Office of Nightlife and city officials for their support. They also ended with a call to action: “Order 10 beers instead of one, offer a bottle to a stranger, over tip our lovely baristas… Make the Lot your summer hang and enjoy it as much as possible! We missed you and need you to make this season a special one.”
