To celebrate the release of her latest single ‘Time’, Mara shares ten tracks that have influenced her journey.
1. The Doors – Riders on the Storm (1971)
“This track takes me back to childhood car rides with my dad. The thunder and rain felt like nature’s own symphony. That nostalgia later inspired my minimal techno track ‘TIME’, echoing the same stormy mood with a deep electronic twist.”
2. Paul van Dyk – For an Angel (1994)
“When I first heard this song as a little girl in Florida, I dreamed of something bigger. The video felt like home—rivers, sky, even the iguana. Back then I wished to go to a festival; today I prepare to perform with the same high energy.”
3. Avicii – Sound of Now (2008)
“This was the beginning for me—the essence of why I fell in love with electronic music. It blends techno, tech house, and deep house before any of it was mainstream. It was Avicii at his rawest and most underground, and I connected deeply with it.”
4. Mark Broom & James Ruskin – No Time Now (2010)
“This track embodies urgency—life is short, there’s no time to waste. It feels like dancing blindfolded in space. For me, it’s the soundtrack of underground nights in Paris, carrying that dark yet uplifting energy.”
5. Kollektiv Turmstrasse (David August Revision) – Last Day (2014)
“This piece is unforgettable. David August opened with it and it felt like stepping into another world. The way he fused it with Syl Johnson’s blues was unbelievable—techno and blues colliding in one of the most inspired fusions I’ve ever heard.”
6. Emmanuelle – Italove (2016)
“I discovered this during one of DJ Livia’s Paris sets while it was raining outside. The track feels like Italian electronic pop blended with Parisian elegance—romantic yet modern. It embodies a new kind of European electronic music alive with intimacy.”
7. Xinobi – Searching For (2017)
“I first heard this at an after-after party as the sun was rising. Every lyric and tone gave me goosebumps. With birds softly chirping outside, it felt like a sci-fi dream where sound and harmony merged into one.”
8. Satoshi Tomiie – Late Night (2021)
“This is timeless Japanese minimal techno. I admire how Satoshi builds with machines and even his own DIY instruments. It’s raw yet refined, always pushing me to explore new sonic frontiers.”
9. Conforce – Range Anxiety (2025)
“This track feels like an early ’80s pre-techno vinyl, spun just a bit too fast. I first heard it at Synchrophone and it’s been with me ever since. It’s already in my sets and always charges the room with energy.”
10. Mara Guard – Time (2025)
“This is one of my own personal favorites. Built from natural elements and vintage machines, it blends influences from blues, rock, Japanese minimalism, and techno. For me, it’s a storm in motion—reminding us that time is always moving and every moment matters.”
