Brazilian producers bela coelho and HNGT have joined forces on ‘The Substance’, a cinematic techno track shaped by the visceral energy of Coralie Fargeat’s acclaimed body horror film of the same name. The single is out now via Alaula Music.
The track was born from a spontaneous studio session after the duo watched the film together. “During the session, the sound effects caught our attention—intense, strange, and fascinating, they played a fundamental role in creating the uncomfortable yet hypnotic atmosphere of the film,” they explain. What began as a post-cinema conversation quickly transformed into a full production that echoes the film’s disturbing tone.
‘The Substance’ features dramatic structural shifts and unpredictable builds, designed to captivate peak-time dancefloors. Early support has come from Wehbba, Victor Ruiz, and Nuria, with the release already landing in Spotify’s Techno Bunker and Electronic Rising playlists. It has also entered the Beatport Top 100 Techno (Peak Time / Driving) chart, with over 20,000 streams in under five days.
This track marks bela coelho’s first international release and collaboration. The 21-year-old producer co-founded the 333 collective, which champions underrepresented genres in Brazil. Meanwhile, HNGT has built a reputation performing at prominent venues like D-EDGE and Terraza, with releases on labels such as VOLTA, Tragedie, and Iboga. His ‘Rebel’ EP previously topped Beatport’s Techno (Peak Time Driving) chart.
