Defected Records has released a never-before-heard DJ mix by the late Frankie Knuckles in celebration of what would have been his birthday on Sunday, January 18th.
Compiled and mixed by Knuckles in 2011, ‘Defected presents Frankie Knuckles In The House’ was originally intended for release as part of the label’s celebrated In The House series. Due to health concerns at the time, the project was shelved at Knuckles’ request — until now.
The two-hour-plus mix is now available exclusively on Apple Music. It captures the producer’s signature Directors Cut sound and arrives in collaboration with the Frankie Knuckles Foundation, supporting LGBTQIA+ education and AIDS prevention initiatives.
“As stewards of Frankie’s legacy, we are thrilled and deeply honoured to share this previously unreleased project with his legion of fans,” said Frederick Dunson of the Frankie Knuckles Foundation. “It beautifully captures his quintessential Directors Cut sound in 2011 which has become synonymous with his name, mixed in classical FK style!”
In tandem with the mix, Defected has repressed ‘House Masters: Frankie Knuckles’ on vinyl, following overwhelming demand. The 2LP release includes extensive liner notes, archive photos, original productions, and essential remixes. A portion of the proceeds from the vinyl and official merch will benefit the Frankie Knuckles Foundation.
