Known for tracks such as ‘Body Language’ and as the driving force behind Get Physical Music and Kindisch, Jung has built a career that bridges underground credibility with international reach. His work spans continents, shaped by a nomadic approach and a catalog that includes collaborations like Beauty and the Beast, Formerly, and Doormen on Vacation.
Now based in Costa Rica, Jung returns with ‘Rewind Forward Vol. 1’, a new compilation revisiting key moments from the Get Physical catalogue. Approaching this phase with renewed perspective, he reflects on legacy, creative process, and the evolving landscape of electronic music.
EG: Hi, Philipp Jung! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been doing?
Philipp Jung: Very good, thank you. I’ve been living up in the mountains of Costa Rica for a while now, which is quite a change from years of airports and dark clubs. It gives me a bit more distance and time to listen to music again properly, which is actually the best thing that could happen to someone running a label. Listening with time and a healthy distance from the big cities, I found my love for music again and am enjoying my job more than ever.
EG: Proper change. Congratulations on the incoming release of Get Physical’s new series, ‘Rewind Forward Vol. 1’! You must be very excited to share this one. What has the initial reception been like?
Philipp Jung: Thank you! The reactions so far have been really warm. People seem to enjoy the idea of revisiting some of the older gems from the catalog and hearing them in a slightly different light. It’s a bit like opening an old photo album and realising some pictures aged even better than expected.
EG: So, what is the ‘Rewind Forward’ series all about? What can fans expect this time around?
Philipp Jung: The idea is simple: dig through 25 years of Get Physical music and rediscover tracks that deserve another moment. Some are remixed, some are slightly reworked, but the spirit stays the same. It’s basically our way of saying that good music shouldn’t have an expiration date.
EG: This drop also includes your remix of ‘Just Let Go’ by Birds Of Mind ft. Zemira Israel. How would you describe your remix? What was it about it that initially caught your attention?
Philipp Jung: The vocal immediately got me. Zemira’s voice has this emotional pull that you don’t want to mess with too much. So the remix is really about building a new landscape around it — giving the song a different movement while keeping the heart intact, and I do love the BOM boys since I met them at some theme party in a fancy hotel in Moscow many moons ago.

EG: What are some of the things you enjoy the most from revisiting Get Physical’s extensive catalog? How would you describe the through line connecting it all?
Philipp Jung: What I enjoy most is remembering where I was when certain tracks came out. Every release is connected to a moment, a club, a trip, or a group of people. The common thread across the catalogue is probably that we always leaned toward songs, even when they were made for the dancefloor.
EG: What can we expect from Get Physical for 2026? Is there anything you can anticipate on that front?
Philipp Jung: We are already booked out until September, I think, a lot of beautiful projects in the pipeline. A new body language compilation from Bonafique, a new album by our South African star Blanka Mazimela, a new EP by Deer Jade, and some very interesting catalogue as well.

EG: On to a broader subject… What would you like to accomplish as an artist this year? Is there something “tangible” that you’d like to go for?
Philipp Jung: Honestly, I just want to keep the curiosity alive. And eventually release my album, which I started during COVID. It’s just weird pop songs and no dance. Really proud of it, but not sure quite yet if I am ready to release it.
EG: In your view, how would you describe the state of our scene at the moment? What are some of the challenges artists will have to face in the near future? Any word of advice for your colleagues?
Philipp Jung: The scene is huge now, and electronic music is basically everywhere. That’s great, but it also makes it harder to stand out. My advice would be simple: try to build a world around your music instead of chasing the next trend. Overall, I think: Fast success builds ego, and slow success character, and be blessed to express ourselves with music. It does not have to be a career right away.

EG: What’s next for Philipp Jung? Where can your fans catch you next?
Philipp Jung: Mainly here in Costa Rica for now. Having a baby pretty soon, taking one day at a time, and really enjoying life, still travelling, still curious about new talents and great parties.
EG: Thank you so much for your time, Philipp! We wish you all the best in the future. Take care!
Philipp Jung: Thank you very much. It was a pleasure as always. And see you somewhere between the dance floor and the mountains.
