EGLO.070 Ripperton

There are records that arrive as products, and there are records that arrive as signals. ‘Sirens,’ the new collaboration between Ripperton and Joy Frempong on Compost Records, belongs to the second kind.

It is a piece shaped by time, patience, and memory. Its story begins more than a decade ago, when Ripperton first heard Joy’s music with OY on Swiss national radio. Soon after, he saw her perform live and felt something that stayed with him. A remix request followed, then a promise from Joy to one day appear on one of his productions. Nearly fifteen years later, that promise found its form in Sirens.

The track began as one of Ripperton’s late-night modular sketches, built from analogue textures, pulsing sequences, and open space. Joy’s voice then gave it another life. Her words move through the music with quiet force, carrying both intimacy and warning. Around them, Arthur Hnatek’s percussion and Sacha Unger’s guitars add a human touch to a production that feels both fragile and alert.

For EGLO 070, Ripperton uses Sirens as the emotional center of the mix. The selection moves with the same sense of care, bringing together Colleen, Anthony Child, Hania Rani, Lord of the Isles, Radiohead, and more. It does not chase the room. It listens. It drifts between tension, stillness, and beauty, holding the listener inside the world that gave birth to the release.

Ripperton has long been one of Switzerland’s most restless electronic voices, from his early work with Soul Merge and Reasons to Lazy Fat People, Perspectiv Records, Tamed Musiq, and releases on labels such as Innervisions, Border Community, Planet E, and ESP Institute. With Sirens, he reminds us that some music does not need to shout to be heard. It only needs the right moment and the right voice.
