A new Channel 4 documentary will examine the final chapter of David Bowie’s life and creative output. Tentatively titled ‘David Bowie: The Final Act’, the film will reflect on his last artistic phase before his death in 2016. An official release date for the documentary has not been announced.

Produced in collaboration with Dogwoof and Rogan Productions, the 90-minute documentary is set to include rare conversations with Bowie’s close collaborators, alongside commentary from well-known fans and artists who knew him personally.

‘The Final Act’ will delve into Bowie’s final album ‘Blackstar’, released just days before his passing, and shed light on his approach to mortality through art. It also explores the broader arc of his final creative resurgence, from his headlining appearance at Glastonbury 2000 to his extensive touring in the early 2000s.

“The traditional music documentary celebrates triumph,” says director Jonathan Stiasny. “He transformed failure into triumph, silence into revelation, and ultimately, death into art.” He adds: “What fascinated me most when making this film was how Bowie’s final chapter wasn’t an ending, it was a resurrection.”
