From founding his own genre in 2012 to launching labels like FCKNG SERIOUS and YELLOW KITCHEN, Brejcha has built an ecosystem around his creative identity. His vision extends beyond music, with fashion lines, stage design, and immersive live shows such as Boris Brejcha In Concert and the latest Reflections tour.

Across albums like ‘Space Diver’(2020) and ‘Never Stop Dancing’ (2021), the German artist has shown a consistent drive to expand the emotional scope of club music, melding hypnotic rhythms with cinematic tension. Now, with the release of his new single ‘16RedEven’, Brejcha enters another chapter marked by introspection and innovation.

In this conversation, Boris Brejcha opens up about his creative process, the inspiration behind his latest track, and the story-driven philosophy behind Reflections.

EG: Hi Boris, welcome back to EG! First, let’s talk about ‘16RedEven,’ your latest single. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind it?

Boris Brejcha: It’s good to be back at EG. ‘16RedEven’ was born from a very spontaneous visit to a casino in Las Vegas. When I returned to the studio, I had this hypnotic groove running and started layering synths that felt both futuristic and nostalgic. The inspiration came from that contrast between raw club energy and something more cinematic. I wanted to create a track that pulls you in, like a trance, but still surprises you with emotion.

EG: You’ve always had a distinct sonic fingerprint — where does ‘16RedEven’ sit within your current musical evolution? Does it reflect a shift in your creative direction?

Boris Brejcha: I see it as a continuation of my journey, but also a step into new territory. My style—High Tech Minimal—always evolves. ‘16RedEven’ has a more minimal structure but plays with deeper melodies and a sharper sound design. It’s not a huge shift, but definitely an evolution.

EG: You’re known for producing music that bridges intensity with emotion. What was the emotional core or concept behind ‘16RedEven’?

Boris Brejcha: The emotional core is tension. It’s about movement—internal and external. The idea was to create something that feels like a constant push and pull, like dancing through conflict and release. It’s intense, but there’s beauty in that intensity.

EG: The Reflections tour feels like more than just a tour — it’s a full-scale audiovisual experience. What was your vision behind Reflections, and how did the name come about?

Boris Brejcha: ‘Reflections’ is about looking inward while being surrounded by sound and visuals. The name came to me during a long flight. I was thinking about how people reflect their emotions onto the music, and how the music reflects their state of mind. I wanted to build something immersive that speaks to that connection.

EG: Recently, you debuted your new stage design at Red Rocks, and fans have been buzzing about it since. Can you walk us through the creative process behind the new stage concept?

Boris Brejcha: Red Rocks was the perfect place to introduce the new design. We wanted the stage to feel alive, like it’s breathing with the music. I worked closely with my visual team on every detail, from the lighting algorithms to the LED formations. The idea was to create a space where light, sound, and architecture become one.

EG: Visuals have always played a key role in your performances. What role do light, motion, and space play in the new design, and how do they interact with the music?

Boris Brejcha: They’re not just background elements—they’re instruments. Light becomes rhythm. Motion adds dynamics. Space gives everything depth. Every beat, drop, or breakdown is echoed in the visuals. It’s all synced, so the crowd doesn’t just hear the music—they see it.

EG: How important is storytelling to your live sets, especially now with Reflections? Are you aiming to take the audience on a particular kind of journey?

Boris Brejcha: Very important. Every set I play has a structure, like a story arc. With Reflections, that journey became even more deliberate. The goal is to start with curiosity, move through energy and chaos, and end in a kind of emotional resolution. If people walk away feeling like they experienced something personal, that’s the best reward.

EG: With the scale and ambition of this new tour, how do you stay grounded creatively? Are there any personal rituals or habits that help you stay connected to your art?

Boris Brejcha: I stay grounded by spending time alone in the studio, away from everything. That’s my reset button. I don’t need much—just my machines, silence, and time. Also, I never forget why I started: it was always about expressing something real. If I hold on to that, everything else falls into place.

“They’re not just background elements—they’re instruments. Light becomes rhythm. Motion adds dynamics. Space gives everything depth”

EG: Your fan base is incredibly global. How do you approach adapting your sets — or your production — for different cultures and audiences?

Boris Brejcha: I always respect the energy of each place I go. Some crowds want more intensity, others more melody. But I never compromise my sound. I adapt through feeling. I’ll watch how the crowd responds and shape the set in real-time. Music is universal, but the vibe is local.

EG: Looking ahead, what excites you most about this current chapter — musically, visually, or personally — and where do you see Boris Brejcha going next?

Boris Brejcha: I’m most excited about pushing the boundaries of live performance. We’ve built something special with Reflections, and it’s only the beginning. Musically, I’m working on new collaborations and exploring more cinematic textures. Personally, I just want to keep growing—quietly, steadily—and keep surprising people. That’s where I’m going.
