Create Music Group (CMG) has announced the acquisition of Berlin-based independent label !K7 Music, marking a new chapter for the label founded by the late Horst Weidenmüller. The deal will see CMG continue the legacy of the pioneering label, best known for its globally renowned DJ-Kicks series.

Operating since 1985, !K7 has been a key player in the electronic music world, releasing mixes from artists like Moodymann, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Peggy Gou, DJ Koze, and Honey Dijon.

Weidenmüller, who passed away in February 2025, was a leading figure in Berlin’s techno scene and a passionate advocate for independent artistry. His vision for !K7 was rooted in innovation and support for creative freedom — values that CMG says it intends to preserve.

“This partnership marks an exciting new chapter for !K7, allowing us to scale our vision while staying true to our core values of independent artistry, innovation, and quality,” said Tom Nieuweboer, CEO of !K7.

CMG, the Los Angeles-based music and technology company, plans to leverage its global infrastructure to support !K7’s operations, artist services, and distribution, while continuing to champion the label’s independent ethos.
