DFA Records has released a tribute cover of The Waterboys’ 1985 track ‘The Whole Of The Moon’ honoring the late Optimo co-founder JD Twitch.
Credited to the supergroup The Watergirls, the recording was spearheaded by Glasgow artist Teamy. It features contributions from James Murphy, Mhairi McClymont, Shellac bassist Bob Weston, CC:DISCO!, and Fantastic Twins.
The project follows the death of JD Twitch, who passed away following a short battle with cancer. The original 1985 composition has previously been reinterpreted by artists including Fiona Apple and Bleachers.
All proceeds from the release will benefit the Beatson Cancer Charity and the Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence. Two remixes by the Hardway Bros accompany the main mix.
