DJ Sneak: “It’s been a great year for personal growth”

Lost Horizon is back in action this spring with a six-show season running throughout March, April, and May. He are swinging open the doors with a Spring Season Opening Party this Saturday, March 13th, featuring the legendary DJ Sneak, who will be playing a four-hour set spanning the history of Chicago house music. As a well-known flag bearer for underground house music, he is a vocal protector of the global house scene and Lost Horizon promises a memorable experience as the DJ comes back to shake the virtual room once again.

Today, we catch up with DJ Sneak ahead of the show to discuss his current mindset, how his feelings for performing have evolved over the years, and what the future holds in store for the seasoned veteran.

Electronic Groove: Hey Sneak, a pleasure to have you here. How are you today?

DJ Sneak: Alive, well, and with new swang!

Electronic Groove: Wow, what a crazy year! Obviously, you would normally be playing IRL at clubs and festivals all over the world… What have the last 12 months looked like for you?

DJ Sneak: It’s been a great year for personal growth, while touring was good the life rough was catching up, I’m no kid and 30 years of wear and tear was doing a number on me. I’m glad to be home, I’m happier than ever, I’m also healthier in many ways which I hadn’t felt in years.

Electronic Groove: Through 2020, you streamed some sets and did lots of cool stuff… can you tell us your best moment of the year?

DJ Sneak: I have been streaming for exactly a year, I started on Facebook and quickly was making plans to go private and charge for my streaming time. While things have been good so far, it’s a slow process especially when people are still stuck in old formats and are trying to get back to the old ways. News Flash! Old ways are done. It’s time for new ways to grow as an artist.

Electronic Groove: You came through in the 90s on the Chicago scene… How would you compare the feeling of performing now to then? Did you ever think you would experience a raving world where virtual reality and digital shows were commonplace?

DJ Sneak: I had been thinking about what this future would bring. I was ready to bounce out the old ways, now I have rights to all my music, I’m independent and I do not plan to go back touring the way I used to. Now I can choose selected gigs and the rest is outside DJing life.

Electronic Groove: We can’t wait for the show this weekend. Are there any special surprises in store?

DJ Sneak: Not really. It’s a bangin’ ass DJ Set with no holds barred. This will definitely let people know who is down with technology.

Electronic Groove: What does the future hold for you?

DJ Sneak: Full-time streaming, rebuilding a much-needed community of house music lovers… We will regroup, rebuild our community, adapt and evolve, and carry on. House Music is forever, we will finally have a chance to balance the field and get rid of the trash in our circles. Besides that I’m going to keep being the DJ Sneak you already know: with values, ethics, and never-ending passion.

The Lost Horizon Spring Season launch party kicks off at 7 PM GMT on Saturday 13th March. His set is followed by an exclusive virtual afterparty featuring German electronic music DJ, recording artist, and label owner Matthias Tanzmann alongside Berlin-based, Japanese electronic music artist HITO featuring her wildly unique musical style and aesthetic.

VR, PC tickets, and multi-cam stream tickets are $10, and until 13th March, a six-show season pass is also $10. The show will also be streamed live across the internet – sign up for streaming links.
