The Superbooth synth show in Berlin revealed an exciting new addition to the music world: The Bullfrog Drums. This machine is a collaborative effort between Erica Synths and Richie Hawtin, marking Hawtin’s first venture into hardware drum machines.
The Bullfrog Drums features an engine powered by digital samples and seven distinct voices. Although all details haven’t been released, a prototype was showcased at Superbooth, generating significant attention. The drum machine stands out with a feature that allows users to upload their own drum samples. This grants them the ability to adjust pitch, attack, decay, and drive either per step or across the entire sound.
The device includes a memory function for storing and retrieving various kits. It also comes with a 16-step sequencer, pattern chain, randomizer, ratchets, shuffle, accents, and probability controls. The user-friendly interface, inspired by the Roland TR-909, facilitates easy management of these features.
