The label’s first dedicated broken beat release in nearly two decades arrives this August.
fabric Records returns to the broken beat scene with the announcement of SELECTS VIII, the latest installment in its curator-led compilation series. Marking the label’s first dedicated release within the genre since 2006, the collection highlights the evolution of London’s influential bruk sound by featuring both pioneering artists and a new generation of producers.
The compilation is anchored by the lead single, ‘Carnival (AfroForce Vox Dub)’ by Mark Force featuring Afronaut, which arrived on 11 August. The track reunites former Bugz in the Attic members, blending deep bass and Afrocentric rhythms. The full eleven-track project includes unearthed CoOp-era material from Maddslinky alongside contemporary contributions from artists such as Ben Hauke, D’Monk, and Last Nubian.
“Broken beat is a scene and sound that has brought us so much joy over the years, and SELECTS VIII feels like our way of giving something back. What has always made it so special is how true it has remained to itself. It has a devoted community, continues to evolve, and new generations of artists are carrying the sound forward while respecting the foundations that came before. We wanted this compilation to reflect that journey, from its roots to where the scene stands today. Made for the dancefloor first and foremost, it celebrates the depth, creativity, and lasting influence of broken beat, alongside the artists continuing to shape its future,” the fabric team commented.
SELECTS VIII bridges the gap between historical studio recordings and modern club-focused productions. The compilation will be available in full on August 28, 2026, accompanied by a limited run of 100 white-label 12-inch vinyl samplers.
