Fatboy Slim is among the investors supporting the community purchase of Brighton grassroots music venue The Pipeline.
Originally launched in East London in 2009, The Pipeline relocated to Brighton and has operated there as an independent rock venue since 2017. Music Venue Properties and the Charitable Community Benefit Society have now acquired the building.
The purchase forms part of the Music Venue Trust’s Own Our Venues scheme, which acquires buildings occupied by grassroots venues to offer fair rents and long-term protection from commercial property pressures.
“Our thriving music business needs grassroots venues,” said Fatboy Slim, also known as Norman Cook. “Community ownership means they pay fair rent and have security, knowing their venue will not suddenly be turned into a block of flats.”
Venue operator Thomas Evrenos said the acquisition would allow the team to focus on hosting shows, supporting emerging talent, and maintaining The Pipeline’s role within Brighton’s music community.
