Funk Cabal return with ‘Open Up’, a new five-track EP released via Tremors. Marrying raw analogue grooves with reflective vocals and widescreen synths, the record showcases the duo’s signature fusion of club energy and art-rock introspection.
Drawing inspiration from Kerri Chandler’s groove, Massive Attack’s atmospheric depth, and Gil Scott-Heron’s lyrical spirit, Funk Cabal explore humanist themes and emotional nuance throughout the EP. Each track stands alone in style—moving from Italo-leaning arpeggios to broken breaks—yet remains unified by a cinematic palette and introspective tone.
Speaking on the project, Funk Cabal said: “Coming from different ends of the musical spectrum really made us push each other in the writing process… We wanted to explore life from different angles in these songs, but whether through the lens of inner-city living or dark sunglasses on a club med-like getaway, there’s a bittersweet lyrical dissonance throughout.”
