‘Glastonbury: The Movie’ is set to return to UK cinemas this month in a newly restored 4K edition celebrating the film’s 30th anniversary.

Originally released in 1996, the documentary is built around footage captured at the 1993 edition of Glastonbury Festival, offering a portrait of the event before live television broadcasts, camera phones, and modern ticketing systems transformed the experience.

The restored version has been created from the original 35mm Panavision CinemaScope negative, enhancing both picture and sound quality. Screenings will take place in 62 cinemas across Britain from June 26th, 2026, coinciding with the period when Glastonbury would traditionally be held. The festival is observing a fallow year in 2026.

The film also documents the final Glastonbury before the introduction of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, legislation that expanded powers to regulate rave culture and outdoor music gatherings across the UK.

“Shooting in 1993 gave us something we only fully appreciated in retrospect,” said director Robin Mahoney. “What feels like recent history now reads as another era entirely.”
