Greg Wilson has shared a fresh remix of Irvine Welsh & The Sci-Fi Soul Orchestra’s ‘Damn Straight’, now available digitally via Port Sunshine Recordings.
The new remix sees Greg Wilson join forces with his son Che’ to reinterpret ‘Damn Straight’, a track from Irvine Welsh’s latest project, The Sci-Fi Soul Orchestra. The release includes a second version by Serge Santiago under his Sound Klash alias, taking the remix into synth-house territory.
‘Damn Straight’ was written by Welsh as a tribute to his wife, Emma, and is considered one of his personal favorites from the LP. The Sound Klash Dub flips the energy, boosting the tempo with a synth-led groove and a nod to Ultramagnetic MCs in its vocal approach.
Wilson, now celebrating 50 years behind the decks, draws on decades of disco and soul lineage for this latest work. With a career that began in 1975, the artist has long been known for shaping genres like jazz-funk and electro, famously becoming the first DJ to mix live on British television in 1983.
