Ken Bauer & Christian Meldal: “‘Heart of Glass’ is vulnerable, emotional, and hard”

Ken Bauer & Christian Meldal joined forces to bring their latest collaboration ‘Heart of Glass’ through Future Rave Music.

The experience of Ken Bauer mixed with the fresh sound of up-and-comer Christian Meldal created this new Future Rave production that is a must-listen for all fans of the genre.

Now, we invited them to tell us more about the production process behind ‘Heart of Glass’.

EG: Hello Ken Bauer & Christian Meldal! How are you doing?

Christian: Very well, thank you. I’m just taking some days off to relax. I have been busy the past two weeks due to work. So finally, I can sit down in my studio again and make some music.

Ken: Same here, just came back from vacation and now I’m back in business.

EG: ‘Heart of Glass’ is officially out now, can you tell us what inspired the production of the track?

KB/CM: We both fell in love with the vocals after accidentally pitching it up a few semitones. And then the track was created inspired by the vocals.

EG: How did the collaboration between you come about?

Christian: To be honest, I never thought that I would land this collab. I sent the track for a demo submission to Future Rave Music some time ago. It ended up that Ken really loved the idea and asked for a collab where he could put his touch on it. So, I was only hoping for a release on FRM, but on top of that, I also got Ken on board… I was so excited, (laughter).

Ken: This is exactly what happened. When I heard the demo, I loved the track but got some ideas I really wanted to try out so I reached out to Christian and he agreed to collab and it all turned out great.

EG: What would you say each DJ brought to the production of ‘Heart of Glass’?

Christian: I made the foundation of the track. Ken then came in from the sideline and added his touch on the track. He also added a lot of elements that really took the track to the next level. We also had a daily communication where we gave our opinions, so the track ended up how we both liked it.

EG: Are there any new genre or sonic explorations you’re experimenting with for this song?

KB/CM: Not really, this is a classic Future Rave track, but we tried to give it our touch and signature sounds.

EG: What’s your favorite element of the track?

Christian: It’s hard to choose, but I would say the break. I love the vocal part with the synths. Sometimes I still get goosebumps.

Ken: I like the breakdown as well, especially the bass stabs at the end of the breakdown.

EG: How long did it take you to finish the production?

KB/CM: 2 months.

EG: Did you have to overcome any struggles while working on this track?

KB/CM: Not really, the reason it took 2 months was due to the collaboration itself working remotely.

“Many may be able to relate to it, as everyone knows the feeling of being angry and sad. Out of these feelings, you can transform them into energy and that’s the vibe I get” – Christian

EG: Can you describe ‘Heart of Glass’ to someone who hasn’t heard it yet?

Christian: I would say the track is a great combination of different feelings. For me, ‘Heart of Glass’ is vulnerable, emotional, and hard. Many may be able to relate to it, as everyone knows the feeling of being angry and sad. Out of these feelings, you can transform them into energy and that’s the vibe I get.

EG: How would you like listeners to feel when they listen to the song?

Christian: I would like the listener to feel an inner strength when listening to this track.

EG: What’s next for Ken Bauer & Christian Meldal?

Christian: I hope this is the start of more releases from us.

Ken: Yes, I am doing a lot of collaborations at the moment and love the process, as I get insight into workflows and techniques from other great artists.
