Miguelle & Tons: “We are looking to show the world that house music has no limits”

Miguelle and Tons are two DJs and producers from Venezuela, who for some years have joined forces to create music together. Now, this union reached a new level: they decided to launch a label together, called Two and a Half Cats Records.

For this interview, we sat down with Miguelle and Tons to talk about their latest project.

Electronic Groove: Hi, guys, thanks for chatting with us. You recently launched your label Two And A Half Cat Records with a fire two-track release. Can you tell us more about how this project was born? What inspired it, and where does the name come from?

Miguelle & Tons: Hello, EG family, thanks for this invitation. We have been working together for the last 16 months making music every day. We have around 40 unreleased tracks looking to be shared with the world. That’s the main reason why Two and a Half Records came to life. Furthermore, we want to continue to organize events and experiences the way we did for many years in Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama.

About the name, we love cats. In our home we have one black and one white, they are an incredible balance.

EG: Is this your first label? If so, what have you learned so far about managing one?

Miguelle & Tons: For several years, each of us has been looking for a way to have our own label, now we have found the right time. Investigating this world, we have noticed that marketing is an essential piece of record label management, so your work doesn’t get lost. In this new digital era, there are many options to reach the right target.

EG: How does an independent artist like you keep their label relevant with the ever-increasing competition in our scene? What are some of the biggest challenges you have encountered so far?

Miguelle & Tons: Honestly, everything has gone excellent. We believe that musical quality, identity, and perseverance are the main factors to highlight, stay in the flow, and differentiate from the rest. We are looking to show the world that house music has no limits. We have confidence that all of you will love the sound we will share in each EP, limited vinyl, or Bandcamp Edits.

EG: What is your creative process like? What is your favorite part about making music in collaboration with another artist? Do you prefer making music with other people or by yourself?

Miguelle & Tons: We have a dynamic workflow; each one focuses on adding the correct elements. We don’t have a routine, we just enjoy creating music and sharing knowledge. We are always thinking of new ways to create unique rhythms and fusion with our musical roots.

EG: Where do you see Two and a Half Records going? What are some of your goals with this label?

Miguelle & Tons: Many plans on the way. It will not only be a record label; we are also working to further position ourselves as a brand, a musical and cultural reference, and a family. From event production and festivals to merchandise and booking agency. This musical journey will be an incredible experience that will add a lot to our individual careers as artists.

EG: You just released your first EP about a month ago. Can we expect any upcoming releases anytime soon? Any exciting projects in the pipeline that you can share with us?

Miguelle & Tons: Our next release will be for early 2021. We will have two features, one with the renowned Venezuelan R&B singer Irepelusa, and the other with the vocalist of one of the most recognized bands in Latin America. Two different tracks with a lot of grooves, instruments, jazzy swing, and Spanish vocals. They will be available on all digital platforms. Stay connected for more.

EG: Apart from the label, what else are you currently working on? Any other projects or releases you’d like to talk about?

Miguelle & Tons: We are both also working on our individual projects; we will be releasing a single EP soon via Two and a Half Records.

Miguelle has a release soon via ‘From The South’ Records alongside Argenis Brito with remixes by Jean Pierre and Jesse Calosso. More music and info here.
