Miss Monique: “I would say that this year and my life are divided into “before and after””

Miss Monique is today among the world’s fastest-rising Progressive House DJs, and probably the most recognized female DJ in this genre in Europe. Unlike most other popular DJs nowadays, who made their name producing rather than mixing, she rose to fame bringing the old school back with her unprecedented conversion of classic radio mixes into the form of YouTube podcasts. Miss Monique’s unique talent of smoothly melting techno rhythms with classic trance and progressive tunes year after year gets highly appraised by an ever-growing number of electronic music aficionados. By 2020, her live sets gather thousands of progressive house addicts online, with recorded streams gaining up to 2 million views. Miss Monique’s most popular set on Radio Intense channel boasts a whopping 11+ million views. Her performances have been admired in more than 40 countries across the globe and counting — from small-scale cozy boat parties in Ibiza to renowned first-rate global festivals such as Untold or ADE.

Now, EG caught up with Miss Monique ahead of her performance at this year’s edition of the Seismic Dance Event to learn more about what’s in store, the recording of her recent Cercle set, and more.

EG: Hi Alesia! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. Where are you based right now? How have things been going this year? How are you feeling lately? We’d like to extend our condolences to you and Ukraine.

Miss Monique: Hi EG, thank you for your support of our Ukraine. I’m based in Portugal now but still, I’m waiting for that day, when I’ll return to my home. I would say that this year and my life are divided into “before and after”. This year was amazing with the greatest events, visiting new places, and a lot of travel, but from another side, my home, Ukraine, has been on fire since the 24th of February. Russia attacks my country with rockets almost every day.

As for how I feel lately. My life is full of beautiful moments but I can’t enjoy them much, as I am very worried about my country and those people who are still there. This is my pain, but I try not to lose heart and believe that in the end the truth always wins.

EG: Congratulations on your involvement in this year’s edition of the Seismic Dance Event! You must be very excited about this one…What can your fans expect?

Miss Monique: I’m very excited about this and working on some exclusive material.

EG: Any other acts on the lineup you’re a fan of? Anyone you’re looking to catch up with?

Miss Monique: Usually I don’t have time before/after my sets but if I would have a chance, I would listen to Maceo Plex, Fatboy Slim, and Innellea’s performances.

EG: You’ve just recorded your first Cercle broadcast from the Biosphere in Montreal! What was that experience like?

Miss Monique: The Cercle stream just happened a few days ago and seems that my mind is still under the amazing effect of everything. Making a stream together with their incredible team was enjoyable and very professional. I feel a bit sad that everything happened so fast.

We spent unforgettable hours inside of the unique location Biosphere, which looks huge in real life. With one of the coolest crowds we enjoyed the music, colors of the sunset, and, at night, the venue started glowing with blue and purple colors. I can’t find words to describe all of the emotions. I think it was one of the best moments of my life, and I will never forget it.

EG: How do you go about preparing such a big set? Is there a difference between a festival set?

Miss Monique: I could say there is a difference between festivals and big/small club locations. There is even a difference between the sets in the countries.

I was working on Cercle’s set the whole summer, as I wanted to make it interesting and exclusive. I wanted to share my music in this mix, but at the same time, tracks of our very talented Ukrainian artists and some of my favorite producers.

EG: What does a regular Monday in the life of Miss Monique look like? And a Friday?

Miss Monique: Usually on Mondays I return back home after the weekend and on Fridays, I am already back on the road or having events 🙂

EG: What’s next for Miss Monique? What particular milestones are you looking forward to now?

Miss Monique: Till the end of the year I already have a full schedule of events, so for sure I’m very excited about upcoming gigs. Also, we are working on an idea to start showcases from my label, Siona. Last week I was very focused on my Cercle stream and now, after we made it, I’ll go back to my MiMo Weekly Podcasts and work on my Youtube channel. Also, I can’t wait to share some new music which will be out in the next few months. We have so much to do, wish the day had 48 hours and not 24 🙂

EG: Thank you so much for your time, Alesia! We wish you all the best for the future.

Miss Monique: Thank you EG for a cool conversation and for having me.
