U/M/A/A has launched TechnoByobu,  a new art piece that combines cutting-edge design technology and traditional Japanese craftsmanship. It features Lou Beach’s iconic artwork for the legendary Yellow Magic Orchestra’s hugely influential debut album.

TechnoByobu is a Japanese Art Screen Room Divider limited to just 50 pieces, making it a desirable art form for collectors of Yellow Magic Orchestra memorabilia. It represents the marriage of history and cutting-edge technology, embodying the group’s own artistic ethos.

The initial design of the piece of art is based on the iconic artwork of Yellow Magic Orchestra’s self-titled debut album of 1979 by the American artist Lou Beach. Founded by Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Yukihiro Takahashi, Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) became one of the central figures in the techno/new wave movement starting in the late 70s, along with Kraftwerk and DEVO.

The final aspect of TechnoByobu is its NFT status. Using Startbahn Corporation’s NFT management service, Startrail PORT, various pieces of information proving the value of the work on the blockchain are recorded. An NFC chip embedded in the lining of the work allows access to the NFT certificate by holding a smartphone over it.

TechnoByobu is priced at 975,810 JPY (approximately $7,000 or £5,400) and is available for purchase and shipping worldwide.
