Chilean artist Masaya is an assured DJ who has real style and skill in the booth.
She often shares it with Swiss star Ripperton and the pair have plenty in common. Now they share more in the form of this new EP on the two year old Chapter 24 label. It is Masaya who serves up three originals and Ripperton who remixes one of them into something quite different.
Opening up this slow burning but class EP is ‘Borderline’, the sort of elongated tune that slowly but surely sweeps clubbers off their feet with its subtle rising tension. Subtle and seductive, it is a killer opening cut.
Then comes ‘Picture’, another shadowy and late night track that builds in rich layers of finger clicks, brooding bass and icy hi hats that dangle in the air. It is the title tune ‘Flow of Tears’ that then completes the trio of originals with broken beats, some foreboding vocals and big string sweeps. Ornate and dramatic in style, it is another great production.
Last of all comes the monstrous Ripperton remix which is dark and dense and unforgiving as it slaps you around with coarse hits and macho bass for eight minutes of intense dance floor fun.
All in all then this is a killer EP from this fine pair.
Masaya’s ‘Flow of Tears’ is already available of Chapter 24 Records.
