Iconic drum & bass label Metalheadz commemorates its 30th anniversary with a publication chronicling its journey through the underground music scene.
The comprehensive volume, titled ‘THE BOOK OF GOLDIKUS: VOL. 1 METALHEADZ / THE RUFIGE FILES,’ spans 400 pages, offering an unprecedented look into the influential label established in 1994 by Goldie, DJ Storm, and Kemistry. This curated anthology showcases rare photographs, vintage event flyers, media coverage, and exclusive sketches by Goldie himself.
Photographers Gus Coral, Normski, and Rankin, along with writer Tim Barr, contribute their expertise to this historical document.
The official Instagram announcement states: “From an underground sound to a global phenomenon, this is the story of how Metalheadz became one of the most influential movements in electronic music history.” The book explores the label’s releases from artists like Dillinja, Photek, Doc Scott, and Marcus Intalex, while documenting the creation of Goldie’s seminal album ‘Timeless.’
Readers will be transported to the label’s formative years through detailed accounts of the iconic Sunday sessions at London’s legendary Blue Note venue. The publication also examines how graffiti culture shaped the label’s identity and artistic direction.
