Miso Extra, the British-Japanese artist, has released her latest single ‘Good Kisses.’ The track, now available via Transgressive Records, was produced by and features Joseph Mount of Metronomy.
Recorded this summer and finalized at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13 with Riccardo Damian, the song explores themes of romantic insecurity. Miso describes it as capturing “this crushingly insecure feeling you get when someone is not as into you as you are them.” The song showcases her take on sophisticated pop music, with drum machines and bilingual choruses pulling listeners into the spellbinding world she calls the “Misoverse.”
Accompanied by a music video, the single offers a preview of Miso’s upcoming project, following her recent UKG-infused track ‘Slow Down,’ co-written and produced by DJ Boring. For both singles, Miso collaborated with Chinese-Indonesian filmmaker and photographer Claryn Chong on the visuals.
Currently on tour across the UK and Europe with Rejjie Snow, Miso Extra recently performed at Pitchfork London alongside Tierra Whack. She has also announced upcoming shows supporting Yannis & The Yaw. Tour dates include performances in Leeds, Cardiff, Bristol, Brighton, London, and Manchester throughout November and December. More information about upcoming performances is available here.
Born in Hong Kong to British and Japanese parents, Miso Extra developed her musical skills early. Influenced by J Dilla, MF DOOM, Daft Punk, Kelis, and anime, she initially hesitated to pursue music due to a lack of Asian representation. The Miso Extra persona, born during the 2020 UK lockdown, reclaims her identity from past racist taunts. This anime-inspired character inhabits the “Misoverse,” embodying peace, authenticity, and growth.
