Patricio Diaz – Night Lights – Mélopée Records

Paris-based DJ/producer Patricio Diaz has unveiled his much-anticipated return to Mélopée Records with the electric ‘Night Lights’ EP. Following the release of his first track ever, Diaz is back on the label with a truly gripping concoction. The new record, which features two new original cuts and two remixes, courtesy of ROTCIV and Theo Scuera, is a testament to the evolution and the character arc of Diaz.

Wasting no second, ‘Night Lights’ makes the most out of every beat as thumping kicks and a vigorous bassline chip away in tandem with extreme precision at the dancefloor before Patricio unleashes a series of razor-sharp arps that cut through the mix with enviable ease. As the groove comes to a halt, the Parisian producer presents us with a showstopping breakdown where tension thrives as the synthetic arps interlock with arousing effects and surging drum arrangements, reaching unattainable heights before collapsing and reconfiguring itself for a dazzling third act.

In the same vein, ‘Walking At Dawn’ is an explosive piece that finds Diaz conjuring a pulsating low end that grows with every passing beat as sonic debris and acidic effects submit to its gravitational pull. With ‘Walking At Dawn’ firing on all cylinders, a meandering arp unfurls as it sways over the track, racing towards the rising sun. Come breakdown, a gorgeous piano line takes center stage, soaring high as the first rays of light caress its pace before sonic bursts bring it all back for a rousing finale.

Vantablack deep, ROTCIV’s Cosmic Dub Remix of ‘Night Lights’ is a mind-bending take that proposes a fabulous journey across nebulas in bloom. Treading over a galloping bassline, ROTCIV evades explosions in the sky and off-beat percussive bursts in a series of orchestral maneuvers that showcase the producer’s technical prowess as he reimagines the piece for a darker dancefloor.

On the other hand, Theo Scuera’s Organ Remix of ‘Night Lights’ is a relentless, driving cut that storms through the late night hours with extreme finesse. With a sophisticated and modern feel, this last take on ‘Night Lights’ twists and bends at will as it thrusts across vibrant alleyways and neon-lit avenues in search of that unadulterated thrill, elevating the piece to higher grounds.

A well-rounded adventure, Patricio Diaz’s ‘Night Lights’ EP stands as an entertaining, high-voltage affair that expertly treads across notions of techno, trance, and progressive house with a no-holds-barred attitude and enough panache to make heads turn.
