Seth Troxler and Dr. Cornel West discuss the origins of house and techno

As part of Beatport’s Black History Month program.

DJ Seth Troxler has been tapped by Beatport to curate a series of talks and sets for the brand’s Black History Month programming. The proposal started on February 8th with an 18-minute conversation between Harvard University professor Dr. Cornel West and Troxler himself. The talk centered around house and techno’s origins in Black and Latino communities.

Apart from being a professor for the ‘Practice Of Public Philosophy’ at Harvard University, Dr. West is also a writer, activist, and editor. One of his own monologues recently appeared on Brandon Lucas’s House track ‘Got That Hope’, which Troxler later remixed. After that, Troxler sat down with Ron Trent and Tony Humphries for a longer discussion.

Watch both conversations below. You can check out the full program here.
