Sunwaves Festival has announced that 2025 will mark the final edition of its Romania-based event.

The news was shared via Instagram on April 28th, with organizers revealing that the festival will relocate to a new international location starting next year.

“Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control have led us to this decision,” the statement read, subtly referencing challenges with local authorities and police. “Our deep connection to Romania and our home audience will always remain. We look forward to reuniting around the world in places that align with our vision.”

The festival’s farewell to Romania will come with its 35th edition (SW35), held at Mamaia’s Sunwaves Beach from Thursday, May 1st to Sunday, May 5th, 2025. This final celebration will feature sets from regular artists like Ricardo Villalobos, Sonja Moonear, Seth Troxler, tINI, G76, Priku, and Praslea.

Since its inception in 2007, Sunwaves has stood as a landmark event in the minimal music scene with its extended sessions and beachfront vibe, featuring local key figures like Raresh, Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu, among many others.
