‘Dogma,’ the latest release by Thomas Helmich  on his own label, luft&liebe, showcases his innovative talent. EG had the opportunity to interview him to learn more about his latest release, as well as his future projects.

EG: Hi Thomas! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been? Where are you right now?

Thomas Helmich: I am doing good, being pretty busy these days in finishing up some projects and planning a new studio.

EG: First of all, congratulations on the incoming release of ‘Dogma’! You must be very excited to finally share this one! What has the initial reception been like so far? Do you remember the first time you played ‘Dogma’ live?

Thomas Helmich: The first receptions have been great, seems like people dig the energy of the track and I hope to get more reactions pretty soon.

EG: So, what can you fans expect to find on ‘Dogma’? Is there an emotional trigger or concept powering this one?

Thomas Helmich: Soundwise, I wanted something with a lot of energy and found this main synth, and I knew this was happening. The title came in quite handy. What do we believe? What do we believe in? Broken down into a lot of dogmas, lately, I have been thinking a lot about what we believe in.

EG: Despite having prior experience in the music industry, you just started releasing your solo material during the pandemic, right? Did you have a clear vision of the music you wanted to make on your own?

Thomas Helmich: I was trying to go with my own flow and I soon developed my sonic image. It’s not finished yet, but people tell me a lot that they can distinguish my production.

EG: And how has your sound evolved since then? Is there a “dream goal” for Thomas Helmich as an artist?

Thomas Helmich: I am still getting there and evolving as an artist. I think and hope this will never stop, if it would stop I would be stuck. My dream goal is to create more awesome and engaging tracks and play some great festivals and venues.

EG: Right now, social media seems to be shaping careers in a way that the music, or the actual content can’t…What is your relationship with social media like? How do you navigate these murky waters?

Thomas Helmich: I think I can handle it, I am not the kind of person who is sharing every meal and every little piece of my life, but I can understand that people want to be entertained to engage with your music.

EG: Speaking about visual aspects…What do you think about the current trend that has seen these larger-than-life visuals take center stage? Are they overwhelming the musical aspect instead of just “enhancing” the musical experience? Are they the future of electronic music?

Thomas Helmich: I like these visuals. I am working a lot for movies so moving pictures is nothing new to me, I think it helps the audience to engage and the visuals create emotions. I think it will even go more crazy with all these HOLO shows. Great entertainment!

EG: Also, the incorporation of AI in electronic music seems to be on the rise, whether it is on the music, the album covers, and beyond. Do you have a particular stance on this?

Thomas Helmich: I am also using AI. Pictures and spoken vocals. Why not, if it helps us to achieve a goal, why not? I just met an AI Artist who is doing unbelievable stuff with that. I see that Ai is complimenting us not killing us.

EG: What’s next for Thomas Helmcih? Where can your fans catch you next? What’s still in store for the rest of the year?

Thomas Helmich:  There will be some more releases this year. I will contribute to the new HARTHOUSE sampler, and I will prepare for next year by going all in live. By the end of the year, I will be building a new studio.

EG: Thank you for your time, Thomas! We’re excited to see what’s in store for you. Take care!

Thomas Helmich: Thank you so much for having me. It was a pleasure!
