Depeche Mode has unveiled their latest music video for the track ‘Before We Drown’.

Directed by long-time collaborator Anton Corbijn, this video is part of their 15th studio album, ‘Memento Mori,’ which was released in March 2023. This collaboration follows their successful partnership on previous hit singles like Wagging Tongue’ and ‘Ghosts Again’.

Filmed entirely in black and white, the ‘Before We Drown’ video captures the album’s profound themes of mortality and salvation, portraying an individual wading out to sea. Depeche Mode expresses their deep appreciation for Anton Corbijn’s photography and art direction, which have played a crucial role in shaping the band’s visual style.

Named ‘Memento Mori’, meaning ‘remember you must die’ in Latin, the album holds significant meaning for Depeche Mode as it marks their first release since the untimely passing of founding member Andy Fletcher earlier this year. Despite the challenges faced during the pandemic, the band decided to proceed with the project, considering it a tribute to the late artist’s wishes and giving it an additional layer of significance.
