The Drum ‘n’ Bass community is mourning the loss of one of its pioneers, MC Conrad, whose passing was confirmed by close family and friends on social media.

MC Conrad’s impactful journey from Northampton’s rave scene to London was noted for his unique incorporation of Caribbean sounds into the growing UK club scene.

His breakthrough occurred in 1994 at the renowned Mars Bar in London. Here, he performed with LTJ Bukem and Fabio, bolstering both his reputation and the venue’s status. His collaborations spanned across various big names, such as Carl Cox and Snoop Dogg, and he performed at iconic venues, from London’s Ministry of Sound to California’s Coachella festival.

Beyond his performance accomplishments, MC Conrad significantly influenced the evolution of the Drum ‘n’ Bass sound through his business initiatives. In 1991, he co-founded Good Looking Records with LTJ Bukem, a label instrumental in the rise of the intelligent Drum ‘n’ Bass sound. In 2020, he further transformed the scene by launching the genre’s first digital-first label, Resonance, which served as a springboard for innovative music, including his own releases under the alias Con*Natural.
