Powel – Jungles & Doorbells – Do Not Sit on the Furniture Recordings

Powel is a firm part of the dreamy and desert house movement. He is resident at Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream party and also releases on the label. Now he links with Behrouz’s Do Not Sit on the Furniture Recordings to serve up a splendid EP of five superbly atmospheric tracks.

Everyone is a real work of art that combines smooth grooves with stunningly cinematic and absorbing moods. Since ‘We’ve Been’ is the opener, with elegant chords and great vocal samples rolling over soft and gentle drums. It’s heart swelling and hip swaying and full of love. Who ‘Put That Piano’ in the Jungle is a percussive number, rich in rubbery drums and musical flora and fauna that is utterly enchanting. ‘Doorbell Symphony’ is more dancey, with dynamic and driving kicks getting you on your toes, but still with plenty of the dreamy atmospheres that occupy your mind. ‘A Record This Quiet’ keeps the tempo up withwell-craftedd synths and more soft drums that ooze soul, and last of all ‘Tuesday Blues’ gets you in a reverie with sombre chords washing over yet more floating drums. It rounds out a first rate EP.
