Liverpool’s Capstone Theatre is set to host a concert series commemorating the 60th anniversary of the revolutionary Moog synthesizer. The event, titled ‘The Moog at 60: A Celebration,’ promises to be a journey through six decades of electronic music history.
From November 21st to 24th, 2024, the celebration will showcase diverse performances and installations. Highlights include a foyer sound installation, the Will Gregory Moog Ensemble’s opening night, a Theremin performance, a discussion on synthesis in modern media, and a tribute to Kraftwerk’s ‘Autobahn.’ The festival demonstrates the Moog’s enduring impact on contemporary music.
This celebration coincides with a significant moment for Moog Music. The company has recently unveiled several new instruments, including the Muse analog poly synth, the Labyrinth semi-modular synth, and the Spectravox semi-modular filter bank. These releases follow a period of transition for the company, which underwent significant operational changes after its acquisition by InMusic in 2023.
The Moog synthesizer’s journey began on October 12th, 1964, when Robert Moog first demonstrated his pioneering modular voltage-controlled synth at the Audio Engineering Society’s New York convention. Since then, the instrument has shaped the sound of popular music, influencing countless artists and genres.
