Bicep — the Northern Irish pair formed by Andy Ferguson and Matt McBriar — have released the final installment in their CHROMA series with the track ‘CHROMA 010 BRILLO’. The single concludes a creative cycle of releases under the CHROMA banner, which also included a hybrid AV/DJ show, a run of sold-out takeovers across the UK, and a distinct visual identity developed with designer David Rudnick and Terrain studio.
Launched in January 2024, CHROMA was designed as a space for Bicep to explore a wider range of sonic ideas beyond their core sound. Described as covering “everything from Acid to Alkaline,” the label served as a platform for the duo’s more underground, club-oriented tracks as well as ambient and techno works that previously remained in the vault. The project included tracks under their own name and aliases such as B.D.B (withBenjamin Damage) and DOVE, with highlights like ‘ROLA’, ‘STEALL’ (with Hammer), ‘KR36’ (featuring Kehina), and ‘TANGZ’ (featuring ELIZA).
“By taking elements from [the 90s] era and merging them with our own sound, we’ve created a fusion which helps contextualise this sound in a more modern way,” Bicep shared. Speaking about ‘BRILLO’, they added: “This final CHROMA release…blends euphoric, 90s-esq riffs with soulful vocals, adding a touch of softness that subtly casts a shadow over the series.”
The CHROMA project also introduced a new AV/DJ format, combining live hardware elements with traditional DJing. The format was featured across a global tour that included headlining appearances at Glastonbury, Coachella, CRSSD, and a special show at fabric London under their DOVE alias. The performance marked a personal milestone for McBriar, who had recently undergone brain surgery to remove a rare non-cancerous tumour.
A physical CHROMA boxset compiling the series is slated for release later this year.
