María Nocheydía on staying true to yourself and plans for the future

Mexico City-based DJ and producer María Nocheydía has been honing her craft since age 17, gaining significant momentum through a 2012 residency at CSRhodesia and later joining the legendary Mayan Warrior crew as a resident. Known for her high-energy sets and “cosmic” soundscapes, she has performed at world-class venues and festivals, including Hï Ibiza, Circoloco, EDC, and Day Zero, driven by a philosophy of raw, emotive, and collective liberation.

With a discography spanning labels such as Around Midnight and Phisica, and an upcoming album in the works, she continues to showcase her hypnotic musical range through high-profile mixes for platforms like Keinemusik and Rüfüs Du Sol’s Rose Avenue Records.

Today, we caught up with María Nocheydía to talk about her current status, new releases, and plans for the future.

EG: Hi, María! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been doing?

María Nocheydía: Thank you for having me! Always a pleasure to say Hi to everyone here at EG! Doing great, thanks for asking! 2026 is off to a great start.

EG: Let’s kick this one off… You’re fresh off your performance at EDC Mexico. Congratulations! What was that experience like?

María Nocheydía: Wow! EDC Mexico is one of the best crowds out there, I have to say! It’s such a pleasure to have come back for my 3rd edition in this beautiful stage. It’s just a magical moment to be playing in this amazing festival tent, with natural plants, trees, flowers, and all sorts of foliage hanging from the ceiling, as the sun sets and 8,000 people dance with an energy that truly makes it one of my favorite places to play. Again, the crowd is very special.

EG: Speaking about performances…the last 6 months of 2025 have been intense for you, having played at Mayan Warrior, Festival Vaivén, Day Zero, and more. How have you been taking in all of this?

María Nocheydía: Honestly, I’ve been taking it with full gratitude! It’s such a gift to be playing in such amazing productions, all of which are unique yet equally fun and inspiring. There have been beaches, deserts, jungles, cities, and forests, so a bit of everything, which keeps it very exciting. Festivals are always places where I get to discover and listen to new music and artists, which adds an extra layer of excitement and inspiration.

EG: You were also active in the studio, releasing your remix of Raul Facio’s ‘Keep It (On The Low)’ via Around Midnight. How was the track received? What was it about the original track that caught your attention?

María Nocheydía: I love working with the Around Midnight label crew. They are truly passionate about music, and when they asked me to remix, I was super happy. Raúl is not only a super-talented producer but also has Mexican roots, and I believe there should be more Latin representation in the Electronic music industry. The original track has a lot of very nostalgic melodies, and as soon as I heard it, I thought, oh, so many great elements to work with in this track; I wanted to turn it into something completely different. It turned into a very moody, hypnotic track, and it has been received very well on the dancefloor, especially late at night and at closing. It was my first remix, and it gave me a hunger for more. I’m currently working on another remix for Phunkadelica, to be out on May 1st, which is also very exciting, so I’ll keep you posted.

EG: Is there anything you can anticipate in terms of releases for 2026?

María Nocheydía: I’ve taken a bit of a break from major travels (and also to enjoy the wonderful festival season around Mexico) to be at home more in order to work on a lot of music in the studio, music that will be coming to you sooner rather than later, so I’m definitely excited about that, having said that I have 3 main projects at the moment. One is a remix for Phunkadelica that will be out on May 1st, and the second is a Maria Nocheydia EP that consists of 2 tracks that I’ve just finished. The third is an album I want to print on vinyl, where I’m trying to imprint my musical universe. My different moods throughout the day and the music I’d sit down to listen to, not necessarily focusing on dance tracks.

EG: Now, back to your origins…How and when did you connect with electronic dance music? Is the same connection still there, or has it evolved into something else?

María Nocheydía: I think the main connection has stayed the same: music has always taken me to alternate realities, inspired me, and helped me change my mood and perspective. I started listening to electronic music in my teens and have always been a raver, but over the last 8 years, dance music has changed my life. When I stopped doing everything else to concentrate solely on my music project, my vision shifted, and the hard work has never stopped. In this time, I´ve learned so much about music production. It has always been a dream of mine to make my own music, and in recent years, that dream has materialized through a lot of hard work. I finally feel like I´m finding my sound. I thank all the amazing, cool mentors who have guided me this far, who have had the patience to let me learn without patronizing me, who have guided without trying to change my vision, and who have motivated me along the way.

EG: On to a broader subject…What would you like to accomplish as an artist this year? Is there something “tangible” that you’d like to go for?

María Nocheydía: There are so many things on my list. Many of which I´m working on and I trust are on the way, but mainly I’ve been working on building a strong team and making music. I have been making a lot of changes in the structure of my project and have been working hard on things I have been wanting to accomplish but hadn’t made time for. I can’t speak further of this now, spoiler alert, there will be a lot of new places on the map soon.

EG: In your view, how would you describe the state of our scene at the moment? What are some of the challenges artists will have to face in the near future? Any word of advice for your colleagues?

María Nocheydía: This one is a tough one. It’s no secret that the industry has become increasingly commercial; fees and headlining artists are getting bigger and bigger, leaving less room for up-and-coming talent, the underground, clubs, and mid-sized artists. Social media plays a big role in the scene, and DJs spend more time creating content than making music. But I’m usually not the one to whine about the negative. I don’t know if this is good advice or not (laughter). But stay weird, work hard, use the tools like social media without letting them consume or define you. Learn your skills, then hone them; you are never done learning. Walk your own path, tell your own story. Trends pass quickly; authenticity never dies. Building your sound and taste takes time. Don’t be afraid of trying new things, don’t wish for things to happen, take action, look for opportunities, dream of where you want to go, and figure out how the F you’re gonna get there. Nothing will come if you don´t go out and look for it yourself; nothing just magically happens. No one hands you success. HARD WORK PAYS OFF.

EG: What’s next for María Nocheydía? Where can your fans catch you next?

María Nocheydía: I have some exciting things to announce yet, but I will be traveling to Europe and South America in May, so stay tuned and come dance.

EG: Thank you so much for your time, María! We wish you all the best in the future. Take care!

María Nocheydía: Thank you so much for taking the time as well; it’s always a pleasure to share with the EG Community!
