EG TECHNO.160 OddO

Download for Venezuela Relief

In the late 1990s, electronic music in Venezuela was still finding its shape. Clubs existed and records circulated, but a true local rave culture had yet to take hold. OddO helped change that.

Returning to Caracas from New York in 1996, he founded Torke Records and began organizing underground parties across the city. Basements, small clubs and unconventional spaces became meeting points for a generation discovering techno outside traditional nightlife.

The turning point arrived in 1998 with UNITY1, a 24 hour multimedia rave featuring artists from Spain, London and Japan. More than 2,000 people attended, making it one of the defining events in the early development of Venezuela’s rave movement.

Through Torke Records, OddO helped build a community around the music, connecting Venezuelan audiences with artists and influences from abroad while creating opportunities for local DJs and producers. Events including AX and UNITY3 later brought thousands of people together and reinforced his role in the country’s electronic music culture. He was named Best DJ in Venezuela by the URBE Awards in both 1998 and 2000, but his impact during that period went well beyond his own DJ sets.

London acid techno became an important influence within Venezuela’s early rave community, and OddO played a direct role in bringing that sound to the country. Chris Liberator and Dave the Drummer both appeared at Torke events, strengthening a connection that still informs the way he approaches techno today.

After several years focused on family and his career as a multimedia creative director, OddO returned to music around 2020. He founded Tekno OldSchoolers, reconnecting many of the DJs and listeners who had been part of Venezuela’s original rave generation, while also returning to production.

For EG Techno, those early influences meet the music he plays and produces today. Acid remains part of the equation, but the set also moves through driving techno, harder club records and tracks built around direct rhythm and repetition.

The selection includes Pedro Delgado’s Greater Than Less Than through a Chicago Loop remix, alongside music from Ignition Technician, TineX, Gonçalo M, Oscar L and Eli Brown. Several of OddO’s own productions also appear throughout the mix, including The Experiment of Music, Talk 2 Me Dirty, Fantastic and AcidVerb.

Rather than looking backward, the set places decades of experience inside a current club context. The history is there, but the focus stays firmly on the dance floor and on the music OddO continues to make, play and support.

That history also gives this EG Techno edition a wider purpose. OddO’s story is closely tied to Venezuela, as is Electronic Groove’s own. With the country continuing to face serious social and economic difficulties, the mix is available to download through Hypeddit in exchange for a donation to Electronic Groove’s Venezuela relief initiative.

OddO helped shape an important chapter in Venezuela’s rave history. Nearly three decades later, his appearance on EG Techno connects that history with the present while giving listeners a direct way to support the country behind it.
