Emerging from the fabled landscape of Cordoba, Argentina, Ezequiel Arias’ rapid rise in the electronic dance music scene is nothing short of spectacular. With a highly personal sound that has remained at the cornerstone of his individual brand, Arias has taken progressive house by storm, championed by some of the circuit’s biggest names and renowned brands, making him EG’s Artist Of The Month.
While Ezequiel had already been toying with the concept of DJing for his close friends, following a stint in Mexico during the summer of 2012, a friend of his sparked his curiosity in music production. Arias swiftly returned to Argentina, and he decided to go under the tutelage of Kevin di Serna, who would eventually send his first track ever to progressive maestro Hernan Cattaneo, which was the boost in confidence the budding producer needed.
In 2017, Ezequiel embarked on what would become his first European tour, including a visit to Budapest’s revered Akvarium Club. Since this first foray in European soil would demand almost a month of his time, the Argentine artist was faced with a tough choice, which ultimately ended in him giving up his day job as a chef to pursue his passion for electronic dance music full-time.
His relationship with Cattaneo would be instrumental during the subsequent years, with Ezequiel delivering his first full-fledged EP on Sudbeat in 2018. ‘Passenger’, paved the way for a string of high-profile releases, and gave him the chance to start playing and making the local rounds, cementing his name as one of the most alluring up-and-comers in the Argentine scene. Towering tall, ‘Passenger’ managed to break into Beatport’s top charts, and stayed there for almost 8 months, becoming one of Sudbeat’s best-selling EPs at that moment.
2018 and 2019 saw Ezequiel participating in Hernan Cattaneo’s iconic Forja nights in Cordoba, enabling him to experience an event like no other from the inside. Eventually, he would also be a part of Cattaneo’s acclaimed ‘Sunsetstrip’ events, handing over the decks to the Argentine progressive icon, in what was a full-circle moment for Arias.
Eze’s ascension was also boosted by his Anjunadeep affiliation, which sent him to the upper echelons of international recognition. His involvement with the brand has seen him contribute music to the ‘Anjunadeep 12’ and ‘Anjunadeep 15’ compilations, and participate in world-class events, including the label’s Explorations showcase in Albania, and recently, at its events in Finsbury Park and KOKO in London.
Today, Ezequiel is also behind the Melorama Música imprint, a collaboration with long-time friends Cruz Vittor, Nacho Varela, and Simon Mamy. From thoughts to matter, Melorama showcases vibrant dreams from select creators, thrusting them into the light and providing optimal conditions for each piece to blossom into what they are truly meant to become.
In April of this year, his remix for Paul Thomas’ ‘Emotional Landscapes’ shot straight up to the top of Beatport’s chart to number 1, establishing his weight and relevance within the current scene, as he left behind true heavyweights, like Pryda. Now, Ezequiel has his eyes set on his first North American tour, which will surely set him up for bigger and brighter things, as he keeps inspiring a whole new generation of clubbers.
