DVS1 has reactivated his sub-label Mistress Recordings with its first release in more than three years. ‘Mistress 17’ comes from Italian-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer Z.I.P.P.O, presenting a deeply introspective record that merges raw electro rhythms, nostalgic atmospheres, and futuristic Detroit influences with spoken-word poetry.
The release is anchored by ‘We Need One Another’, a track that blends pulsating electro rhythms with ethereal vocals from underground poet Celina Marie. The spoken-word performance enhances the track’s emotional weight, delivering a narrative on hope and resilience.
‘Mistress 17’ includes multiple versions—Instrumental, Bassapella, and Acapella—highlighting its versatility and message of unity. Complementing the record, ‘Last Hope’ introduces a contemplative, sci-fi-inspired groove with atmospheric pads and meditative SH-101 synths, balancing weight and expansiveness.
A key figure in Italy’s electronic music scene, Z.I.P.P.O has spent over 15 years refining his craft, with residencies at venues like Tresor in Berlin and Resistance in Rome, as well as performances at the Polifonic Festival in Puglia. As the founder of Fides Records, he continues to push the boundaries of techno and electro, bringing innovation and emotional depth to his productions.
Reflecting on the return of Mistress Recordings, DVS1 shared: “My labels, HUSH and Mistress Recordings, took a backseat for the past four years due to focusing on the now-closed Aslice project. Entering the new year with my head clear and ears open, it’s absolutely the right time to focus on music curation again. Mistress has always been about showcasing my broader interests beyond techno. When Z.I.P.P.O sent me these tracks, the main vocal in ‘We Need One Another’ really stood out to me. The message of unity is more relevant than ever, and I hope it resonates with listeners as deeply as it did with me.”
