Hernán Cattáneo officially brought his Sunsetstrip event concept to European soil, hosting a sold-out debut edition at Madrid’s Caja Mágica on Saturday, May 30th, 2026. The milestone gathering attracted over 11,000 electronic music fans to the open-air venue, and standing among the massive crowd, the collective energy was undeniable from the moment we walked through the gates.

The event, co-produced by Buena and Brunch Electronik Madrid, focused on a curated musical progression designed to complement the transition from afternoon sunlight to night. Local artist Jara opened the stage with an atmospheric selection, followed by a seamless two-hour performance from Argentinean rising DJ and producer Kevin di Serna. Watching Di Serna expertly steer the vibe as the afternoon heat began to soften perfectly set the tone for the headline act.
Cattáneo then took control of the booth, delivering a comprehensive six-hour extended set. Witnessing “El Maestro” control a crowd of this scale for six hours is a masterclass in itself; the performance stayed true to his signature long-form storytelling approach. He utilized layered melodies, deep rhythms, and hypnotic arrangements that have defined his progressive house sound over his long-standing four-decade career, which includes managing the Sudbeat record label and hosting his weekly radio show, Resident. As the sun finally dipped below the horizon, the synchronized audiovisual production kicked into overdrive, locking the entire venue into a unified, deep groove.
Originally launched in 2019 as a tribute to the energy of the sunset, the Sunsetstrip brand has steadily expanded its global footprint. Before its European landing in Madrid, the concept had already established a presence across major South American hubs including Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Punta del Este, São Paulo, and Montevideo, alongside North American stops like Montreal.
The successful Spanish showcase marks a significant new chapter for the Sunsestrip as it continues to export its distinct open-air experience to major cultural centers worldwide. For those of us on the dancefloor, it felt like witnessing a historic piece of progressive house lore unfold in real-time.
As the summer unfolds, we look forward to new magical adventures among our dancefloor friends. Thanks to Brunch Madrid for the invite, and see you soon!
