House vocalist Michael Watford passes away

The news was recently confirmed by his son.

Michael Watford, a renowned house vocalist, has passed away. The news was confirmed on Facebook by his son, Solomon, on January 28th, 2024.

His son shared a heartfelt message expressing gratitude to everyone, especially those from the house music community, who have reached out to him and his family during this difficult time.

Born in Virginia, Michael Watford’s musical journey began at a young age when he joined the gospel group Discipline Of Truth at just five years old. Later, he moved to New Jersey and collaborated with the house collective Smack Music. The singer’s soulful voice soon became synonymous with the emerging garage house sound from New Jersey and New York in the early ’90s.

Throughout his career, Watford had the privilege of working with esteemed artists such as Masters At Work, Roger Sanchez, Kerri Chandler, and Robert Owens. One of his notable achievements was his chart-topping hit ‘So Into You’ in 1994, which dominated the Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts in the US. Despite his immense talent, Watford’s final release came in 2018 with the collaborative single ‘Hey Everybody,’ featuring Italian artist Stefano Sorge.
