We had the chance to talk with Dennis Cruz to celebrate his latest release, ‘Freaks’ on Hot Creations.
Electronic Groove: Hi Dennis, thanks for the time to chat with us. Your latest three-tracker is titled ‘Freaks’. Any particular meaning about this one?
Dennis Cruz: There isn’t actually too much of a story behind the name and title of the EP – it’s simply named after the title track’s main vocal hook which says ‘Freaks’!
EG: Joeski remixes the title track. Are you happy with his reinterpretation?
Dennis Cruz: Definitely! Joeski delivered a really nice remix that definitely puts a different spin on the track, and the remix really works well on the EP.
EG: You recently played in Madrid. What’s your feeling every time you play at home?
Dennis Cruz: It is always extra special to play at home in Madrid for a number of reasons. Firstly, I always have a lot of close friends that I don’t get to see too often that are able to come and support me, and secondly, the crowd is amazing every single time I play!
EG: How’s your summer agenda looking like? Any particular gig you are especially looking forward?
Dennis Cruz: This summer is looking really good for me. I’ll be playing at a lot of festivals and shows across Europe and the Americas, where I will be sharing the stage with some close friends, so it’s going to be a lot of fun for sure!
It will also be my first time playing at Tomorrowland later this month, so I’m definitely looking forward to that!

EG: Can you mention some of your favorite worldwide clubs?
Dennis Cruz: That’s tricky. I’d have to go with Lost Beach Club in Montañita, Ecuador. It’s a really special space and I can’t wait to go back and play there again in September.
EG: Are you working on new material? Any sneak peek you can share with our readers?
Dennis Cruz: At the moment I’m working on some new material for my new project and label MÜSE. We will be releasing both digitally and on vinyl, and I’m really looking forward to revealing the first EP. Look out for the launch later this year!
EG: Does the environment inspire or affect the outcome of your music?
Dennis Cruz: Of course! As an artist, you often get inspiration from everything that surrounds you, and this often translates into certain aspects of your productions and influences the music that you’re writing and producing as a result.
EG: What would be your message to the producers and DJs that are in an early stage of their musical career?
Dennis Cruz: I would say to just keep working hard every day and aim to be as consistent as possible. It isn’t an easy career, and it is often a lot harder in the early stages when you’re first starting out, but if you continue to work hard you can always reach and accomplish what you’re looking to achieve.
